How to calibrate Smaart for SPL
To calibrate Smaart for SPL, please follow the steps below:
- After Opening Smaart navigate to Config > I-O Config and select the input device and channel you are looking to calibrate. Device will be highlighted in the top table and channel will be highlighted in the bottom.
- Select the "Calibrate" button at the bottom of the window. The Amplitude Calibration window will appear. Please ensure that the correct device and channel are listed here.
- Turn on the microphone calibrator and place it over the microphone. Ensure that you are using the correct adaptor for the microphone and that the calibrator fits snugly on the microphone. Please note the level at which the calibrator is set to. Common values are 94, 110, and 114 dB SPL.
- Press the "Calibrate" button in the Amplitude Calibration Window.
- If not already set, enter the value your calibrator is producing in the "Set this value to" box.
- Once Smaart has fully calculated and the progress bar is at 100%, select OK to close the window. Smaart is now calibrated for SPL! You should see a calibration offset value in the Offset field of the amplitude calibration window and in the Cal. Offset field for that input.
Note: SPL calibration requires referencing a known physical amplitude, or acoustic test signal, provided by a sound level calibrator. It is possible to enter an arbitrary calibration offset without an SPL calibrator, however where accuracy is required an SPL Calibrator with the appropriately sized acoustic coupler (adapter ring) for your measurement microphone must be used.
