Display issues when using Smaart v8 / Di v2 / SPL v1
We've noticed a handful of display issues can occur when using Smaart 8 under specific circumstances. Before performing any of the troubleshooting steps below, please always make sure the graphical drivers on your system are updated to their latest version.
Diagonal line through RTA (Spectrum) plot:
Some users might experience this issue, where a diagonal line appears across the RTA measurement graph, when running Smaart on a Windows Parallels installation (virtual machine) on a Mac with a high-resolution (5K Retina) display. Parallels outlines some resolution steps in these articles here and here:
- In Windows, close Smaart, right-click the desktop and select "Display Settings". This should open the Windows settings "Display" page.
- Under "Scale and Layout", ensure the size is set to 100%. Try opening Smaart and seeing if the issue persists.
- If it does, then the issue is Parallels-side. Open the Parallels configuration for this VM and navigate to Hardware -> Graphics. Under "Resolution", set it to "Scaled". You may need to reboot Windows for this to take effect.
- If that doesn't work, go to the Windows display settings, under Scale and Layout, and click "Advanced Scaling Settings". Does toggling "Fix Blurry Apps" make a difference (you may need to restart the program)? Additionally, does reducing the resolution of your Windows machine after setting Parallels to "Scaled" help?
Blank Spectrum, TF, or IR mode plots on MacOS
We have noticed issues with Smaart v8 not properly displaying the RTA, Transfer Function, and Impulse Response graphs specifically when using an iPad to extend or mirror the display on the latest versions MacOS Catalina and Big Sur. This issue is caused by an confliction with OpenGL, which Smaart uses to draw the measurement graphs, and Sidecar, which is how an iPad is connected to the Mac to use as an extended or mirrored display. After extensive testing, we've concluded that Sidecar on MacOS is currently not compatible with Smaart v8. We do not intend to pursue this issue further within Smaart 8 and will address it in the next version of Smaart.
