What are the system requirements for Smaart v8 / Di v2 / SPL v1?
Smaart is available for both the Microsoft® Windows® and macOS® operating systems. Besides the obvious OS differences, the two versions are exactly the same in functionality, look and operation. Below are the minimum hardware / OS requirements. Newer OS versions are compatible unless otherwise stated.
Minimum Req. | Windows | MacOS |
OS Version* | Windows 7 SP1 | OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) |
Processor / CPU | 2 GHz Dual-Core | 2 GHz Dual-Core |
Memory / RAM | 2GB | 2GB |

Display | 1024 x 768 | 1024 x 768 |

These are the absolute minimum requirements for Smaart to operate. A more powerful setup may be required if you plan on taking more intensive measurements, using multiple windows, running a large amount of simultaneous transfer function measurements, etc.

Intel Graphics on Windows
We’ve detected some problems with Smaart crashing while the program is being resized on laptops running Intel HD/UHD 600 on-board graphics (and likely any other Intel series chips that use the same driver). Our recommendation is to avoid Windows machines running only Intel on-board graphics whenever possible, as the crash does not occur with AMD and NVidia graphics cards.
Additionally, utilizing a dedicated graphics processor (AMD/Nvidia) on your machine has many benefits, including ensuring that those resources are free for your CPU to use for calculations in Smaart and other programs, resulting in better performance overall.
Lenovo Laptops
While we do not make any recommendations for hardware, a problem has surfaced with a certain series of Lenovo laptops with an unknown hardware limitation or configuration that results in problems with Smaart’s licensing. If you are in the market for a laptop, we highly advise not using the now-discontinued Lenovo Ideapad Flex 4 or Yoga 500 series for Smaart.
Problems with read/write times on these computers is resulting in Smaart’s licensing not working as intended. If you have any questions or concerns about this please feel free to contact us for more information. Other Lenovo models are unaffected.
