Smaart crashes when resizing the main window (v8 / Di v2 / SPL)
We have determined a way to work around this issue by manually setting the window size of Smaart. If your device only has an integrated graphics card in your device, please contact support@rationalacoustics.com for steps on how to do so. Otherwise, please follow the steps below to have Smaart run on the dedicated graphics card.
On certain Windows machines, Smaart may crash when trying to resize the main window. We've determined that this crash is caused by some versions of the Intel HD/UHD Graphics driver causing problems with OpenGL, the API Smaart uses to render its graphs, and we are unable fix this within Smaart alone. Therefore, we do not recommend using a computer with only an Intel GPU to run Smaart. For more information on the system requirements for the Smaart 8 platform, please check out this webpage.
If you have another (dedicated) graphics card installed on your system, you can prevent this crash by setting Smaart to run using that card instead:
- Close Smaart
- Open Windows Settings
- Navigate to System -> Display -> Graphics settings (link at the very bottom)
- This should open to the Graphics performance preferences setting
- "Choose an app to set preference" > Desktop App
- Click the Browse button
- Select the Smaart.exe, which should be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Smaart 8
- Click Smaart v8 and select Options
- Select "High Performance", which should be listed as the dedicated GPU
From there, reopen Smaart and try to resize the window again.
If you're having any issues finding these settings, please send us an email at support@rationalacoustics.com and we can provide alternative steps through either Nvidia's or AMD's control panel to set Smaart to use the dedicated card. Additionally, please make sure the driver for that dedicated graphics card has been updated to the latest version approved by your computer's manufacturer.
